Am I righteous?

Matthew 5:20“For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus made a very bold statement here. Who knew more about God and His word then the scribe & pharisee? The were the olden day equivelent to the perfect mormon family we view on tv commercials. They look so perfect, who doesnt want to ve a morman? Well, no. If their righteousness didnt cut it, then who can be righteous? Truth was, they had a self righteousness and measured themselves by themselves. To exceed this would be measuring yourself by Gods standards. We all are unrighteous however Jesus took our sin and shame and in return He clothes us in His righteousness if we accept it. Only Jesus' righteousness upon us will allow us into His kingdom.
