Are we made aware of our sin?

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.


All I need to do is confess my sins unto the LORD. Its not that He doesnt know already but by me confessing, Im made aware of my need for cleansing. He is faithful and just to forgive me then from all unrighteousness. Thinking about what we must do with our sin isnt good enough.
