Genesis 1:2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
Some hold to a "gap theory" between verse 1 & 2. That God totally reformed the earth again. They use this to explain the older earth idea and the extinction of dinosaurs. Sounds good until you harmonize the scriptures. Death didnt enter the world until adam. The text doesnt warrant an interpretation of God reforming this planet, not saying He could not.
The word for God here is elohim, plural word used. The Father, Son, & Holy Spirit all active in the creation process. Can you imagine, nothing here, darkness, yet Gods Spirit ready to begin this amazing creation in which we now are part of? He knew at this moment, He would come down to this very same earth, taking on human flesh, and die for humanities sins. And He still set His creation in motion. He also knew, He would restore this creation back to this state again, Revelation reveals to us now. He still created all even knowing many would refuse His love for them. What great love He has and is!
