Gods protection

Genesis 12:17 And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.

18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?

19 Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.

20 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

So, Abram is scared the Egyptians will kill him for his beautiful wife. He lies, and has Sarai his wife lie. None of this can end well. Yet, God protects submissive Sarai. That alone is amazing. He also keeps the Egyptians from common practice. By their response, you would think they held marriage to a high regard. They did not, yet God intervened in their reasoning here. Abram wouldnt of feared them had they not made a reputation. God is greater than our fears. Abram & Sarai not only leave safely, they leave with all their goods. I dont want to be disciplined by an unregenerate person about morals or holy things. How humbling it must have been for Abram.
