Jesus points to Gods word

Matthew 12:3 But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him:

4 how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?

Jesus cites the word of God. Gives the example of David, when he was on the run from Saul, he & his men ate the showbread. Life is more important than laws and rituals. God will not let one die of starvation while there is food accessible. The law of love supersedes the law. This doesnt mean lawlessness. This does mean greater effectiveness and strengthening of the law and how to apply it.
