Revelation of Jesus comes with spending time with Jesus.
Revelation 1:9 I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet,
11 saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and, “What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”
History tells us, John was the only one of the original twelve to live to a old age and die of natural causes. But, they did try to kill him. He was boiled in oil. Logic would lead us to believe he would be hardened over this. Not so, the opposite was the case. He displayed Gods love moreso than any other, save Jesus. He was banished to an island called Patmos because of his testimony of Jesus, but only by Gods sovereign will, to receive the revelation of Jesus. Even in a dire place, he kept the open line of fellowship with the LORD thru His Spirit. Jesus commissioned him to record what he saw and give it to the 7 churches. That tells me that he was still going to be used by God regardless of what circumstances would look. Maybe this was alone time that God was giving John, free from distractions and persecution.
