What does Blessed really mean?

I love the teachings of Jesus known as the Beatitudes. They raised the bar of mans standards to what God expects. They are the attitudes to be. Jesus then states, you are blessed if you walk in these things. Blessed, in its truest definition here, means Joyous. Joy isnt based on circumstances. One can have joy in the midst of pain. People mistake happiness with joy. They are not the same. Happiness is temporal based on our current circumstances. Your new car that makes you happy one day will not. The misguided question men ask is "doesnt God want me to be happy?" He wants us to have joy and for it to remain. That joy only comes through Jesus.
