What is fasting? Do I need to?

Matthew 4:2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.

Before we get into how Jesus handled total complete temptations, what was His preparation? He fasted 40 days. Fasting is a denial to the flesh and its wants. It should be coupled with prayer & time in Gods word. You may have fasted before a surgery or some lab work, in which is somewhat different. We fast as christians in order to be more in tune to the LORD and for spiritual breakthroughs. There are things in the spirit realm we just cant advance in without denying our flesh and lifting up our spirit. There are many different things to deny our flesh from. It doesnt have to just be food. I have fasted on tv before. But there comes a point in the fast, you break thru that demand that the flesh lords over us in. Jesus was super hungry afterwards but He showed, flesh, you dont own me.
