Who really is poor?
Psalm 41:1 Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
David goes on as to what the Lord will do for those who remember the poor. I find this simple, practical, yet very spiritual. In a nutshell, the poor are those who are without something, not just money. Jesus said, blessed is the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. We are all, as humanity, poor! We must never forget this! When we close our minds & hearts to the poor, we really hurt ourselves and create hard calloused hearts. We tend to not receive well from God or others because our pride belittles any form of help. This is no good! Its more blessed to give than receive because of what takes place in us. We put a value and worth upon Gods creation that if we wont give, we tend to shy away from. This world ingrains this turning our backs on the poor early and often, for "I would not go to that poor neighborhood", or "those poor folks are only going to be trouble". A lifestyle that gives is a life that has true real joy and is free of the bondage this world places upon materialism.
