The Great Shama

Deut 6:4 Shama yisrael Yehova Elohim Yehova ehad

This is what the Jews call the Great Shama or the Great Hearing!  Shama means to hear.
Hear o Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.

Listen, pay attention to, nothing is more important than this: Gods people, God is our God.  The LORD is one.  The Hebrew word for God is Elohim.  There are other words to use, the root word el, for singular.  Yet Elohim is used, the plural form.  God is seen here as triune, God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Equally great, is the word one, a compound unity.
I've heard it said, the Jews would cover their eyes during the reading of this prayer to keep from being distracted beyond the LORD. This was also, the first thing taught to children.  Jews recite this once in the morning, once in the evening.  Its the final thing said at Yom Kippur.  It would be read for your last rites before death.
So this was and is huge until this day.  Yet it is a montra, a heartless ritual to many even though its respected as most important.  I don't want to fall into that same trap.

Im listening LORD.  You are God and I am Your servant.  LORD, may I unite as one with You as You are One in heaven, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  You have my attention LORD.

These words are beautiful and powerful, but only in conjunction with the knowledge, spiritual understanding, love and submission to the One true God. Easy words to speak, powerful words when we are in relationship with Him.
