Is Repentance a Part of Your Life?

Matt 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

What comes to mind when you hear repent?  If God calls you to repent?  It often invokes resistance or shame attached to it.  Many are good with it until they have done it and don't believe they must ever really practice it there after.  Yet, as a Christian, this should be a daily characteristic of ours.  Here is what I mean by this.  The word simple means a change of path or change of mind.  What mindset are we changing from to what?  We are daily fighting our flesh, the world, & the enemy.  We as Christians must have an open mind daily to repent.  Of what?  Anything and everything not of God.  None of us are perfect and daily need Jesus.  Show me a Christian who fails to live a life of repentance, and I will show you a dead faith and one in danger of major issues in their lives.  Repentance is a daily occurrence until Jesus brings us home.  Until we have shed these bodies of sin and death.  Have a soft heart to God.

Daily repentance of both deeds and thoughts are vital to a loving relationship with our Lord. The passage in II Corinthians 10:5 about taking every thought captive is a big part of keeping both a healthy relationship with the Lord, as well as a healthy mindset. Too often thoughts that we allow to reign in our minds lead to growing distance from the Lord, and giving in to bitterness and sin. Like the old song says: turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face. When looking at His love, mercy and grace our minds and hearts are cleansed and made whole.
