Who Initiates the Conversation?
Luke 2:8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
We are not told whether these shepherds were seeking the LORD or praying or anything like that. They were simply doing their jobs! The angel from the Lord interacts with them and gives them the most glorious message ever given to men.
The LORD didn't send this message to the religious elites or the even the chief priest. Shepherds were outcasts and looked down upon by society. Yet this is the perfect group to give such a glorious message. Jesus came for the outcast and sinners, the brokenhearted. It been my limited experience in life that this glorious gospel is often best received by heathens over religious people.
What about us who seek Jesus now? Well, we are in the same category as the outcasts. We come daily by grace to Jesus. We need His grace everyday. We need to receive this glorious gospel everyday. But this is a spiritual principle we all would be wise to learn from the shepherds here. They simply was doing their own jobs and God rewarded them with spiritual insights. If you want to receive revelation of Christ, you must be in His presence. What are you working on faithfully that God placed you in or at?
