Have you counted the cost of following Jesus?
Matthew 8:18 And when Jesus saw great multitudes about Him, He gave a command to depart to the other side. 19 Then a certain scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” 20 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
21 Then another of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
22 But Jesus said to him, “Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
You must count the cost of following Jesus! How can you properly follow anyone you first don't understand what will be the consequences? Its just utter irresponsible to do this. I truly believe to many people never consider or count the cost to follow Jesus and never make it very long as Christians. We must spend time with our LORD, in His word, prayer, fellowship with Him. Learn of and about Jesus. I never discourage one from following Jesus but you need to know, YOU WILL BE GOING AGAINST THE GRAIN OF THIS WORLD! The life of faith & trust is the best life ever but cant be achieved in our flesh! From time to time, some will approach me about going on one of our missions trips. I'm not sure what interests them, I only assume God is drawing them. But later to find out, its nothing they thought, its not a vacation or the accomodations are not to their carnal liking! Maybe its my fault for not being perfectly clear up front, this is a mission field, under spiritual warfare, life isn't going to be easy. We can make all the plans we want but only God knows what will shake out. What if you didn't have luxuries, would you still go? What if you had to walk streets with dog mess all around? What if the hotel isn't quite as nice as your used to? Sign me up LORD because Im not going for any of that stuff, I want to follow You wherever You go.
