The Spirit confirms Jesus
1 John 5:6 This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.
I believe this verse ultimately speaks of Jesus' bookend events of His public ministry. They are past events that still speak volumes presently. Jesus, at the age of 30, began His public ministry by a baptism to begin fulfilling the Fathers will. The water is His baptism. A little over 3 years later, Jesus would be hung on a cross. The blood is His crucifixion. I love how the Holy Spirit will always lead us to Jesus using these bookend events and everything in between. This is one of many reasons why we should hang out in and read the gospels. Getting to know our Jesus! He fulfilled all the righteous requirements of God.
