Purpose of Parables

Mark 4:33 And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. 34 But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.

A parable is a heavenly truth with earthly meanings.  They are used to reveal a previous mystery.  They encourage one to ask further questions, although, the simple story paints a vivid picture.  Often Jesus used natural everyday things like agriculture in His parables.  They have spiritual meanings.  He obviously spoke things that wasn't parables in His ministry but as this verse says, all those looking in at a distance wouldn't have the spiritual meanings unless they then came in closer and sought Jesus for the answers to apply those things.  All of His disciples needed further revelation for these parables.  We today, need further revelation for these parables as the Spirit leads us to Jesus through His word.  The best part, when we come, as the disciples did, Jesus will explain all things to us!  Question is, do we now come?
