Jesus' Victory over the Lust of the Eyes

Matthew 4:5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: He shall give His angels charge over you, and, in their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’” 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, You shall not tempt the LORD your God.

Satan quotes scripture.  He knows scripture.  Yet he deleted a very big hinge point of this Psalm.  He left out, to keep you in all His ways.  The enticement was to do some miraculous amazing glamorous act that all will see.  So what that it has nothing to do with Gods word or blazing your own trail.  I have witnessed many good Christians, even pastors, take this bait.  They want to make a name for themselves rather than be lower and Jesus higher in their lives.  They have this unhealthy drive for people to love them and have this cultic following.  The closer to Jesus we get the more of His will we do.  I want Jesus to be the only memory people have of me.  I want people to see my cracks and flaws but also see and glorify God for what He can do through a crackpot as myself.  Jesus beat this lust to please the eyes with His word.  Its not the fact Jesus couldn't do this, but it wasn't in line with the Fathers will.  Just because you can don't mean you should.  If you are in Christ, the Father already approves you.  Stop looking for approval in any other.
